In Europe, Toyota began selling cars in 1963, has invested over €7 billion since 1990 and currently employs some 80,000 people here. Our European operations are supported by a network of 31 National Marketing and Sales Companies in 56 countries, around 3,000 retailers, and nine manufacturing plants.
Since 1997, Toyota has been developing computer-based virtual human models, known as THUMS (Total Human Model for Safety), to analyze and simulate situations that are closer to the actual accidents. THUMS has been continuously improved and its latest Version 4 (2009) for average male was developed by referring CT scanned geometries of living human. It made it possible to analyze, in detail, the impact to internal organs. Not only average male, but also small female and large male of THUMS Version 4 will be available for academic institutions and automotive industries soon.
